Julius Bergmann (philosopher)

Julius Bergmann (born April 1, 1839 in Opherdicke near Holzwickede , † August 24, 1904 in Marburg ) was a German philosopher.

Life

Bergmann studied mathematics and philosophy at the Georg-August-Universität Göttingen and the Friedrich-Wilhelms-Universität zu Berlin . From 1860 he was a member of the Corps Teutonia Göttingen. In 1862 he was promoted to Dr. phil. PhD. In 1872 he was appointed professor of philosophy at the Albertus University in Königsberg and in 1875 at the Philipps University in Marburg . In Marburg he was elected rector for the academic year 1883/84 . At the turn of the century he was considered the most important representative of an idealistic epistemology and metaphysics .
