Architectural work

1876–78, the classicist Helvetia building on Helvetiaplatz was built according to the plans of father and son (demolished in 1977, today the cantonal bank is located there). In 1885–87, Kunkler built the Talhof school building as a representative, castle-like exposed brick building with Wilhelm Dürler (1849–1894), who was tied for competition . In 1885, Kunkler expanded the administration building in Olten with an attached concert hall to include the office building (today the courthouse). In 1887 he won second prize in the competition for the Tonhalle Zurich . His most popular building in Zurich is the administration building of the Zurich Accident Insurance Company on Mythenquai (now Zurich Insurance), built between 1899 and 1901. The St. Gallen Tonhalle , which he built in 1906-09 with Robert Maillart as an engineer, is significant . The canton library , created in 1907, is also his work. He was also a sought-after villa architect throughout his entire career.
