Julius Pollak

Julius Josef Pollak (born August 7, 1845 in Vienna ; † April 16, 1920 there ) was an Austrian portrait and genre painter .

Pollak studied at the Vienna Art Academy with Eduard von Engerth . Since January 5, 1872 he was a member of the Vienna Künstlerhaus , for which he was also represented in exhibitions (from 1902 under his pseudonym "Julius Polwin"). He mainly painted portraits and genre representations. In 1877 he became a member of the Freemason Lodge Columbus to the Ocean .

In the years 1881 to 1900 he was partly registered in Italy or Graz. He lived in Graz from 1888 at the latest, where he made the painting of the inn and the portrait of Infanta Maria de los Nieves . In 1893 he joined the Historical Association for Styria as an “academic painter” . On September 29, 1902, he changed his last name to Polwin and seems to be working permanently in Vienna again.

The cost of his funeral was partly covered by the artists' association. The grave is located in the Central Cemetery in Vienna.
