Julius Shulman
Julius Shulman (born October 10, 1910 in Brooklyn , New York City , † July 15, 2009 in Los Angeles , California ) was an American photographer who became known around the world, in particular with architectural photographs of the post-war period and the Kennedy era. Alongside Ezra Stoller , Shulman is considered the most important post-war modernist architecture photographer in the United States.
life and work
Shulman's main focus was architectural photography . He worked for architects such as Richard Neutra , Frank Lloyd Wright , Frank O. Gehry , John Lautner and Pierre Koenig (for example Case Study House No. 22 ).
His photographs form an essential documentation of modern architecture of the 20th century , based on the international style and modernity in the USA, but also in Central and South America.
Shulman's works, mostly in medium or large format , show a high level of craftsmanship and precision. They are characterized by a comparatively high atmospheric density, whereby Shulman's work has become known beyond the actual architecture scene for the skilful depiction of modern buildings.
