Ricardo Legorreta
Ricardo Legorreta Vilchis (born May 7, 1931 in Mexico City , † December 30, 2011 ) was a Mexican architect .
Life
Legorreta studied at the National School of Architecture of the Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México (UNAM) until 1953 . He was a student of José Villagrán Garcías and his partner from 1955 to 1960. In 1960 he founded the architectural office “Legorreta Arquitectos” with Noé Castro and Carlos Vargas , which he later renamed “llama Legorreta + Legorreta” together with Noé Castro, Víctor Legorreta , Miguel Almaraz and Adriana Ciklik continued. He designed the "Camino Real México" hotel based on a novel hotel concept, which opened its doors on July 25, 1968 for the Olympic Games in Mexico City, followed by the "Camino Real Cancún " in 1975 and the "Camino Real Ixtapa " in 1981 . Legorreta's buildings not only include numerous large orders, residential and industrial buildings in Mexico, but also in the USA , Europe and Asia . In Managua he designed the cathedral, which was completed in 1993.
Legorreta has taught as a professor in Mexico at the Universidad Nacional Autónoma and the Universidad Iberoamericana and in the United States at the University of California, Los Angeles , Harvard University and the University of Texas at Austin .
Legorreta has been a “numbered member” (Miembro de Número) of the Academia de Artes since 1989 , a member of the international advisory board of the Museum of Modern Art in New York, the International Academy of Architecture (IAA) and an honorary member of the American Institute of Architects .
His son Victor Legorreta is also an architect and works as a partner in his father's architectural office.
