Julius von Blaas was a naturalist and, in addition to portraits, also painted genre scenes from popular life. His history pictures and portraits are also historical documents of Imperial Austria at that time. A year after his death, the Vienna Künstlerhaus dedicated a memorial exhibition to him. Many of his works are now in private hands and are often offered at auctions. Other works can be found in state collections such as the Austrian Belvedere Gallery and the Army History Museum .

Julius von Blaas was buried in an honorary grave in the Vienna Central Cemetery (Group 15 H, Row 1, No. 12).

His son Karl Theodor von Blaas also devoted himself to portrait painting.
