The Young Philharmonic Orchestra of Lower Saxony , also known as JPON , is a symphony orchestra founded in 1989 . It gives concerts annually, mainly in northern Germany . history

In 1989, the Young Philharmonic Orchestra of Lower Saxony initially consisted of former musicians from the LJO Lower Saxony (NJO) who had "grown too old" . Even after finishing school, they wanted to continue making music together. Word quickly got around about the high quality of this orchestra. Musicians from the neighboring federal states joined the orchestra. The JPON is now one of the largest and best-known student orchestras in Germany . Not only music students shape the picture - also professional musicians with a permanent commitment in leading German orchestras and amateur musicians who have reoriented themselves in their choice of profession, but have not lost their love of making music, characterize this “colorful”-looking composition. The Young Philharmonic Orchestra of Lower Saxony is also known beyond Germany's borders . So led concert tours , the musicians to France and been three times to China. The completely democratic structure is characteristic of the orchestra's work. As members of a non-profit, registered association , the musicians elect a seven-person orchestra board that takes on administrative and organizational matters. The program planning is also largely democratic .

Concerts

The JPON has set itself the task of providing young orchestral musicians with the performance of large symphonic works in a professional setting and thus enriching northern German cultural life. In addition to numerous symphonies by Anton Bruckner and Gustav Mahler , works by Richard Strauss ( Ein Heldenleben , Eine Alpensinfonie ) and Igor Stravinsky ( Le Sacre du Printemps ) have also been performed in recent years . The orchestra performed concerts a. a. to the Laeiszhalle Hamburg, the Bremer Glocke , the Stadthalle Osnabrück , the large broadcasting hall of the NDR Hanover and again and again to the Reithalle Otterndorf , where the JPON regularly makes a guest appearance and gives the resort a festival character. In 2011, the Weser-Ems-Halle in Oldenburg was also on the tour schedule as a new concert location. In 2013 the orchestra played a big symphonic program again, but under the direction of guest conductor Andreas Fellner: The first Symphony by Beethoven , Strauss's Rosenkavalier Suite and Concerto for Orchestra by Bartok . In 2014 the JPON celebrated its 25th anniversary. Again under the direction of Andreas Schüller, Richard Strauss' Don Juan and, together with the soloist Paolo Mendes (solo horn player of the DSO Berlin ), his Horn Concerto No. 1 in E flat major and Maurice Ravel's Boléro and Daphnis et Chloé Suite No. 2 were worked out. In 2015 the orchestra will perform for the first time at the East Frisian music festival Tidal Concerts in East Frisia with the soloist Tobias Feldmann with Dmitri Shostakovich's Symphony No. 7 "Leningrader" and Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy's overture to Ruy Blas and his violin concerto in E minor .

Projects

In addition to the large, independent work phase that takes place every year and the concerts that follow, the Young Philharmonic Orchestra of Lower Saxony organizes concerts with various choirs throughout Germany. In 2009 and 2010, for example, the orchestra realized dance projects with schools in Minden and the Minden Kantorei . Were performed Carl Orff's Carmina Burana and Verdi's Requiem . This rehearsal of the Verdi Requiem was also invited to the 2011 Kirchentag in Dresden , where the JPON open air musicians performed in front of several thousand people. In 2013 the JPON was again part of the Minden dance project with performances in April in Minden and in May at the Kirchentag in Hamburg. In 2015 the JPON will give concerts in Austria for the first time in cooperation with the SingAkademie Niedersachsen (e.g. in St. Stephen's Cathedral in Vienna ).

Chamber music

During the annual working phase, young musicians regularly come together to devote themselves to chamber music . Two ensembles that are now firmly established on the artistic market have already emerged from this: the brass ensemble 10forBrass and the klezmer band Yxalag . Chamber music concerts with musicians from the orchestra have been taking place in Westerstede on a regular basis since 2011.
