Peter Kuhn (* 1964 in Karlsruhe ) is a German conductor .

Live and act

In 1983 and 1985 Peter Kuhn won a prize at the Jugend musiziert competition and studied conducting at the Hanover University of Music, Theater and Media with Hans Herbert Jöris and Lutz Köhler . In 1992 he graduated with the concert exam.

From 1987 to 1994 he was director of the orchestra at the Hanover Music School and from 1988 to 1994 director of the choir of the Hannover Medical School . In 1990, as a finalist in the 3rd Berlin conducting course of the Ferenc Fricsay Society, he received the sponsorship award from the Lower Saxony Ministry of Culture and became a répétiteur and conductor at the Dortmund Theater . With his productions Miss Donnithorne's Maggot and Eight Songs for a Mad King by Peter Maxwell Davies , he was awarded first prize at the International Competition for Modern Theater in Tashkent. From 1993 to 2005 he was director of the Lower Saxony Young Philharmonic Orchestra ; In 1995 he went to the Lucerne Theater as 1st Kapellmeister .

In 1998 he became general music director of the Bielefeld Philharmonic at Theater Bielefeld . There he conducted new productions of the operas Capriccio by Richard Strauss and La clemenza di Tito by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart .

Peter Kuhn has conducted, among others, the Loh-Orchester Sondershausen , the Philharmonie Südwestfalen , the orchestra of the Staatstheater Darmstadt , the Lucerne Symphony Orchestra , the Anhaltische Philharmonie Dessau , the NDR Radiophilharmonie Hannover, the Philharmonisches Staatsorchester Halle , the Nürnberg Symphoniker , the Dortmunder Philharmoniker and the Düsseldorfer Symphony orchestra . He was guest conductor in Seongnam in South Korea and with several orchestras in Poland. He worked as a tutor at the Orchestra Academy in North Rhine-Westphalia . In 2009 he led an international opera course on Die Lustige Frauen von Windsor at Jeunesses Musicales Germany in Weikersheim .

In the 2008/2009 season he conducted the Bergische Symphoniker as a guest ; for the 2009/2010 season he was appointed general music director. His contract initially ran until the end of the 2016/2017 season and was then extended. Kuhn stayed in office until 2019. In addition to the symphonic repertoire, he has also conducted musical theater and concert opera productions such as Béatrice et Bénédict by Hector Berlioz.
