Hans Herbert Jöris

Hans Herbert Jöris (also Hans-Herbert Jöris ; born May 15, 1925 in Viersen ; † January 18, 2008 in Hanover ) was a German conductor and university professor .

Hans Herbert Jöris was born as the first son of the church music director Hans Jöris and his wife Adele Jöris. Franconia born. As a child he learned violin, cello, piano and organ. From 1931 he attended the Diergardtschule and later the grammar school in Viersen and passed the Abitur in 1943 . He was then drafted into the Wehrmacht and returned to Viersen in 1945 from captivity . On October 15, 1945, together with his father Hans Jöris, he gave a concert organized by Mayor August Hubert Carl Schaub in the Festhalle Viersen , followed by other concerts at Christmas time.

Hans Herbert Jöris went to the Cologne University of Music , studied conducting with Günter Wand and became his assistant at the Gürzenich Orchestra . 1951 to 1959 he was the conductor of the Ford Symphony Orchestra. He was the choirmaster of the Westdeutscher Rundfunk choir and worked for the entertainment orchestra of the Nordwestdeutscher Rundfunk under Franz Marszalek . In 1955 he became director of the Dortmund Municipal Chamber Orchestra and later Kapellmeister at the Dortmund Municipal Theaters .

In 1966 he became 1st Kapellmeister at the Lower Saxony State Opera in Hanover. From 1968 to 1981 he conducted the Lower Saxony Youth Symphony Orchestra and from 1976 to 1989 he was the musical director of the Hanoverian Oratorio Choir . In 1978 he became professor for orchestral conducting and conducting and head of the opera class at the Hanover University of Music, Drama and Media . In 1990 he retired .

Hans Herbert Jöris had guest conductors in Wroclaw , Bydgoszcz , Posen , Göttingen , Beijing , Shanghai and Canton, among others . In 1990 he was guest general music director in Oldenburg . From 1998 to 2003 he was chief conductor and artistic director of the " Rotary Orchestra ", which was founded in 1995 as an amateur orchestra.

From 1995 he worked on a documentary about music and theater life in Viersen, which was published in 2006.
