Bernhard Epstein

Bernhard Epstein (* 1971 in Stuttgart ) is a German conductor .

Live and act

Bernhard Epstein studied piano with Felix Gottlieb and ensemble direction with Dieter Kurz at the Stuttgart Music Academy from 1992 . From 1997 he studied conducting with Lutz Köhler, first at the Hanover Music Academy and from 1999 at the Berlin University of the Arts . Among other things, he received prizes at the 29th Federal Youth Music Competition and the Steinway Competition and grants from the Deutsche Stiftung Musikleben , the Kunststiftung Baden-Württemberg and the European Piano Teachers Association . From 2000 he was musical assistant at the Young Chamber Opera in Cologne and until 2004 a member of the Conductors' Forum of the German Music Council . In 2004 he received the 1st prize at the Bad Homburg Conducting Competition .

From 2001 to 2004 he was accompanist and conductor at the Koblenz Theater . In 2004 he moved to the Hanover State Opera as Kapellmeister and then in 2006 as a conductor at the Stuttgart State Opera . There he took over the artistic direction of the opera school in 2009. Since 2007 he has been professor for opera practice and coaching at the Stuttgart University of Music.

Bernhard Epstein conducted the Berlin Symphony Orchestra , the Hamburg Symphony Orchestra , the Lower Saxony State Orchestra , the Saarland State Orchestra , the State Orchestra Rheinische Philharmonie , the Southwest German Chamber Orchestra , the Neubrandenburg Philharmonic , the Münster Symphony Orchestra , the Württemberg Chamber Orchestra , the Wuppertal Symphony Orchestra and the Young Philharmonic Orchestra Lower Saxony , the Hofer Symphoniker , the North German Philharmonic Rostock , the Stuttgart State Orchestra , the Lithuanian National Orchestra, the Sofia Philharmonic Orchestra and the World Chamber Choir in Belgium.

In addition to symphonic and choral works by Pierre Boulez and Luciano Berio, his repertoire includes operas such as Alcina , Il barbiere di Siviglia , La Bohème , Carmen , Cavalleria rusticana , Fidelio , Hansel and Gretel , Madama Butterfly , Pagliacci and Die Zauberflöte , the operetta Die merry widow and the Singspiel The Abduction from the Seraglio .
