Dieter Kurz
Dieter Kurz (* 1945 ) is church music director , choir director and professor for choral conducting in Stuttgart .
Life
After studying church music , singing and conducting in Berlin and Stuttgart, he led the Paulus Choir from 1970 to 1972 and since 1974 as cantor at the evangelical Pauluskirche in Stuttgart . In between he worked as head of the Laubacher Kantorei . In 1980 he was appointed church music director by the Evangelical Church in Württemberg and professor for choral conducting at the State University for Music and Performing Arts in Stuttgart , where he had been a lecturer since 1970. In the course of his work until 2011 he directed, among other things, the university vocal ensemble "Circus Musicus" which emerged from his oratorio class. He has been teaching at the Karlsruhe University of Music since the 2011/12 winter semester .
He has directed the Württemberg Chamber Choir since it was founded in 1970. In 1982 this choir and its artistic director were awarded first prize in the choir competition of the European broadcasters. As an amateur choir, Kurz conducted the choir of the Pauluskirche Stuttgart from 1974 to 2016 .
As a choir director and choir teacher, Dieter Kurz maintains a broad spectrum of musical activities from basic choral work to guest engagements with international professional choirs and orchestras; Choir productions for example for Sergiu Celibidache , Sir John Barbirolli , Erich Leinsdorf , Gianluigi Gelmetti , Claudio Abbado , Georges Prêtre , Eric Ericson , Michael Gielen and many others.
Dieter Kurz is a regular guest at international festivals. He is married to the conductor Veronika Stoertzenbach and has three sons and a daughter.
