Jupp Balkenhol
Josef "Jupp" Balkenhol (born April 20, 1929 in Körbecke , Westphalia Province , Free State of Prussia ; † September 28, 2018 in Möhnesee ) was a German teacher and author who published mainly in Low German .
Life
Balkenhol grew up on the north bank of the Möhnesees , attended elementary school in his place of birth and then the Archigymnasium in Soest , where he passed his Abitur . After studying at the Pedagogical Academy in Essen - Kupferdreh , he was a teacher, first in the Ruhr area , then in Brüllingsen and finally, until his retirement , in Körbecke.
In his free time, Balkenhol devoted himself to maintaining the Low German language and published numerous Low German books in prose and poetry . For several decades his columns in the Westphalian town of Platt appeared regularly in the Soester Anzeiger .
Jupp Balkenhol, who was also called the "Läh" (teacher) in Möhnesee, was married and lived in Körbecke all his life. The devout Catholic was a passionate hunter who was always driven out for long walks in the local fields and woods. In his younger years his leisure activities also included sailing on the Möhnesee.
