Career

The 1.90 m tall right back player began his professional career at Rokometno Društvo Termo . In 2011 he signed with the European Cup participant RK Velenje , with whom he advanced to the quarter-finals of the EHF Cup 2011/12 . In his second year he led Velenje with 64 goals to the last 16 in the EHF Champions League 2012/13 . In both years he won the Slovenian championship. For the 2013/14 season, the left-hander switched to the French team Montpellier Handball , with whom he won the league cup in 2014 and 2016, the French cup in 2016 and advanced to the final of the EHF European Cup 2013/14 , in which he was defeated by Pick Szeged . In the summer of 2017 he moved to the Spanish first division club FC Barcelona . With Barcelona he won the Spanish championship in 2018, 2019 and 2020 and the Spanish Cup in 2018 and 2019.

In the Slovenian national team Dolenec made his debut in 2011. At the European Championships in Serbia in 2012 , he finished sixth and scored 30 goals in seven games. At the 2013 World Cup in Spain he finished fourth and was the best Slovenian goalscorer with 39 goals. He was a member of the Slovenian squad at the 2016 Olympic Games .
