Justin B. Herman

Justin B. Herman (born April 29, 1907 in Philadelphia , Pennsylvania , † December 3, 1983 in New Hope , Pennsylvania) was an American screenwriter , film director , film producer and cartoonist who made his short films Roller Derby Girl and Three Kisses for was nominated for an Oscar .

biography

Herman graduated from the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts . Among other things, he worked as a reporter for Philadelphia Records and wrote short stories and created cartoons for The New Yorker . He also founded a magazine called The Town Crier while in Philadelphia before moving to New York two years later. His work for the film production company Paramount Pictures extended over a period of 35 years, in which he was involved in more than 160 short films; including 150 films in three important functions.

The reward for this work was that Herman was nominated for an Oscar in the category “Best Short Film” (1 film role) in 1950 with his short film Roller Derby Girl , which, however, went to Jack Eaton and his film Aquatic House Party . A second Oscar nomination took place in 1956 for the short film Three Kisses , but with the Herman had the disadvantage of Edmund Reek and his film Survival City .

Justin B. Herman, who died at the age of 76, left two daughters and two grandchildren in addition to his wife Alma.
