Justin Bilyeu (born February 3, 1994 in St. Louis , Missouri ) is an American football player in the position of defensive player .

Club career

Career start in Missouri

Justin Bilyeu was born on February 3, 1994 to John and Pamela Bilyeu in the city of St. Louis, Missouri, where he grew up and began his football career. In his childhood and youth, he was active for the local youth club St. Louis Scott Gallagher Missouri Academy and at an advanced age came to the Christian Brothers College High School , where he was also a member of the school soccer team. In his first year he won the state championship with the team in 2009 and was elected to the all-state team for his achievements in his final senior year in 2012 . He achieved further successes in high school, especially in his junior and senior years. As juniors, he received an honorable mention ( Honorable mention ) in the All-State Store Missouri, was twice All-Conference -Pick and won both his junior, and in his senior year, the Academic Award of his school, this award as the best athlete of the past school year. As a senior, this was followed by admissions to the All-Metro-First-Team and the All-State-First-Team as well as assignments in the MAC All-Star-Game and the All-American- All-Star-Game . Subsequently, Bilyeu was admitted to Southern Illinois University Edwardsville in 2012, where he majored in criminal law and, parallel to his studies, was also a member of the men's soccer team in the sports department of the university, the SIU Edwardsville Cougars .

Moved to SIU Edwardsville

With the team from Edwardsville , Illinois , he made only six championship appearances in his freshman year, none of which he was on the field from the start. Nevertheless, he was with the team at the end of the season in the final against the team from Bradley University , which was only the second final appearance for the Cougars after 2010 in the history of the league. The final against the Bradley Braves was just lost 3: 4 after a penalty shoot-out. In the following sophomore year of the players came from the Show Me State for more match practice than him Kevin Kalish , in 15 games from the start, only the third coach of the 1967 team incurred as a full-back began. In his 15 championship appearances he got two hits and one assist. Due to the strong defensive line, which allowed only 17 goals conceded during the entire season, the second-best league value this season, Bilyeu, who could not play the last season games due to injury, received an honorable mention of the All- MVC selection. The SIUE soccer team, made up of professionals such as John Berner , Matt Polster or Christian Volesky , made it to the semi-finals of the MVC Tournament at the end of the season.

In the 2014 game year, his junior year, Justin Bilyeu made further appearances as a regular in the defense line. After the departure of Kalish at the beginning of December 2013, the previous assistant coach Scott Donnelly took over the vacancy of the SIUE Cougars coach. After Donnelly resigned from his position as interim coach in mid-August 2014 and was instead taken on by the US Association as a technical advisor for the Northeastern United States, a two-person team of coaches took up the vacant position with the previous goalkeeping coach Brian Jones and assistant coach David Korn. After the team was still without a win after the first eight games of the season, Justin Bilyeu and his team got better into the game and it led to a turnaround. At the end of the season, the Cougars took first place in the MVC tournament and secured a place in the subsequent NCAA Division I Men's Soccer Championship 2014 for the first time since 1982 . In this, the SIUE came after a first round victory over Northwestern University up to the second round of Regional 4 , in which the team was subject to UC Berkeley and was eliminated from the current tournament. Justin Bilyeu made two goals and three assists in 20 league appearances, 19 of which he was on the pitch from the start. His awards at the end of the season include elections for the All-MVC-Second-Team and the MVC-All-Tournament-Team .

After the sports director Dr. Brad Hewitt officially announced the position as head coach of the SIUE Cougars at the beginning of December 2014, the previous assistant coach of the Louisville Cardinals ( University of Louisville ) Mario Sanchez was introduced as the new head coach of the SIU Edwardsville Cougars on January 27, 2015 . Under Sanchez, Bilyeu was used in 18 championship games, in which he contributed one hit and three assists. After he was a member of the All-MVC selection in the preseason and was one of two SIUE players next to Austin Ledbetter who received this honor, he received various other awards at the end of the season. After winning the national championship, the team made it into the subsequent final of the MVC tournament, but failed with 0: 1 against the Drake Bulldogs from Drake University , Bilyeu was elected to the MVC All Tournament team . Furthermore, at the end of the season he received an honorable mention from the NSCAA All-West Region and was in the All-MVC-Second Team , as well as in the NSCAA-NCAA-Division-I-Men's-All-West-Region-Third Team .

After this, the 1.88 m tall defender was drafted to the New York Red Bulls as the 18th pick in the first round via the MLS SuperDraft 2016 . After a successful preparation for the season, Bilyeu, who played in seven league games of the PDL club FC Tucson during the previous year’s free time and scored a goal, was presented with a professional contract which he signed on March 3, 2016. On April 10, 2016, Bilyeu was awarded to the reserve team New York Red Bulls II , which also played in a professional league, although he is still eligible to play for the first division team, and made his professional debut only hours after moving to the reserve when he played at the 4 : 0 victory in the third division game against Bethlehem Steel FC in the 63rd minute of play for Alex Muyl came on the pitch.
