The Görlitz correctional facility is a correctional facility (JVA) in the city of Görlitz in Upper Lusatia in the Free State of Saxony. The building complex is located behind the district and regional court on Postplatz in the city center . The building offers up to 216 prison places in several wings. The inmates are guarded and looked after by 79 employees, including a psychologist and two social workers. The servants are supported in looking after the prisoners by two external pastors and volunteers. The head of the prison is Chief Government Councilor Hans - Peter Mutscher . His representative is government official Hans - Jürgen Kleß.

history

The prison, then called the Büttelei or Stockhaus, was once located behind the Fischmarkt 10-14 houses on the city wall . It was first mentioned in 1377. In 1589 it was rebuilt on the foundations of the old house. In the 1850s a floor was added to isolate the prisoners. As early as 1822, the city council gave the building to the royal Prussian inquisitorial, but it remained the owner of the house. The judicial authorities bought the house at Fischmarkt 14 in order to set up their offices here. In the end, however, she sold the property to the city in exchange for a 2½  acre property on Postplatz.

Between 1863 and 1865, the associated judicial prison was built on Postplatz behind the then newly established regional court. In the years between 1905 and 1909, the prison was expanded to its present structural dimensions. The previously right-angled building was expanded by adding a cross building based on the American model. Additional work space and space for a prison church could be gained by adding additional floors to the former carpenter's workshop and a cell wing in the old part of the building.

After the end of the First World War and the seizure of power by the National Socialists , the house was modernized. The electrical systems were renewed, central heating was installed and the prison got its own vehicle fleet. In 1967, sanitary facilities were installed in the cells, which is why the male prisoners on remand moved to the Rathausstrasse property (today: Jüdenstrasse) until it was completed in December of the same year.

Entrance area

After the fall of the Wall , the old boiler house was demolished, replaced by a modern new building and the house was renovated in stages. In 1994 the reconstructed C wing was handed over. The prison kitchen followed a year later. In 2003 and 2004 the detention area wing B was renovated, between 2005 and 2007 wing A and 2007 to 2008 wing C. In April 2006 a solar system was installed for the hot water supply.

Between 2000 and 2002 the former production building and the garages inside were demolished. As a replacement, new garages were built. Furthermore, a modern three-storey gate guard building with workshop rooms, production rooms, visitor area and discussion rooms was built. A new social building was built on the grounds of the rear building at Luisenstrasse 6.
