'Juwel' is a white wine variety that was crossed from ' Kerner ' × ' Silvaner ' in 1951 by August Herold at the State Training and Research Institute for Viticulture and Fruit Growing in Weinsberg (Baden-Württemberg) .
Josef Schäffer had a significant share in the new breed. In the name of the variety, “Ju-” stands for his nickname Jupp , “we-” for Weinsberg and “l” for the location of the breeding establishment, Lauffen am Neckar .

Ampelographic varietal characteristics

- The medium-sized leaves are usually three-lobed. The stalk bay is closed with a slight overlap. The leaf surface (also called blade) is slightly blistered.
- The grape is medium to large and moderately dense. The round berries are medium-sized and green-yellow in color. The aroma of the berry is almost neutral, but slightly unconventional.
