Jyrki Seppä (born November 14, 1961 in Tampere ) is a former Finnish ice hockey player who played for the Winnipeg Jets in the National Hockey League from 1979 to 1986 .
Career
Jyrki Seppä began his career as an ice hockey player in his hometown in the youth department of Ilves Tampere , for whose professional team he was active in the SM-liiga from 1979 to 1981 . He was then selected in the NHL Entry Draft 1981 in the third round as a total of 43 players from the Winnipeg Jets , but initially stayed for the 1981/82 season in Finland, where he was on the ice for Jokerit Helsinki .
In the summer of 1982 Seppä finally went to North America, where he played in the following two years mainly for Winnipeg's farm team , the Sherbrooke Canadiens , in the American Hockey League . He also came in the 1983/84 season to 13 appearances for Winnipeg in the National Hockey League , in which he was two templates. In the following years, the former international junior player was often injured, so he had to skip hockey for a year. For the 1985/86 season he ran for his ex-club Jokerit Helsinki in the SM-liiga, whereupon he ended his career at the age of 24.
International
For Finland Seppä took part in the Junior World Championships in 1980 and 1981 . In both tournaments he won the silver medal with his team, although he was not used at the Junior World Championships in 1980.
