Károly Ecser

Károly Ecser [ ˈkaːroj ˈɛtʃɛr ] (* 1931 in Cegléd ; † April 6, 2005 ) was a Hungarian weightlifter .

Career

Károly Ecser grew up in Cegléd and was a good football player and swimmer in high school. He later also tried his hand at athletics and wrestling. After learning pipelayer, he was drafted into the military. After his discharge from the military, he moved to Újpest , a district of Budapest, for professional reasons , and began lifting weights there at the age of 24. He slowly increased his performance and was accepted into the Hungarian national team in 1960 when he had managed 395 kg in the Olympic three-way fight. At almost 30 years of age, he also managed to reach the top international class and surpass the 500 kg limit. The European heavyweight title in 1965 and three other medals at international championships were the reward for his hard work.
