Eino Matias Mäkinen (born June 13, 1926 in Kuru , † August 13, 2014 in Tampere ) was a Finnish weightlifter.

Career

Eino Mäkinen grew up in Tavastland and initially worked as a teenager and young man with athletics. After he had done his military service from 1943 to 1945, he had more time to train and achieved distances of over 15 meters in the shot put, which made him close to the Finnish top class at the time. While training for the shot put, he also learned about weightlifting, which he liked so much that he ended up sticking to it. He trained in Tammerfors , his coach was Jukke Turunen . In 1953 he broke the 400 kg limit in the Olympic three-way battle for the first time. In the same year he also took part in the World and European Championships for the first time. From then on he tirelessly competed in almost all important national and international championships, became European heavyweight champion in Munich in 1955 and won several other international medals.
