The Kälberauer Mühle , also called Kahltalmühle , was a double water mill near Alzenau in the Aschaffenburg district in Bavaria .

geography

The Kälberauer Mühle was in the lower Kahlgrund in Kälberau on the right side of the Kahl . The village was on the opposite bank. It consisted of the two grain mills Sotermühle and Ullrichmühle . Below the Kahlbrücke there was a weir that led the Mühlbach to the Kälberauer Mühle building. Kahl and Mühlbach formed a small river island that was used by the village youth as a recreational area. The fields behind the mill were called "mill gardens". Today the Kahltal-Spessart-Radweg leads past the buildings of the Kälberauer Mühle .

history

The two undershot water wheels of the Soter and Ullrichsmühle were built in the 18th century to operate the flour mills. In 1905 Richard Teichmann bought the Ullrichsmühle and converted the building into a leather factory . The water wheel was included in fulling . A water pipe was built from the Speichenbach am Hahnenkamm to the factory and several properties in Kälberau were connected. In 1933 the Teichmann leather factory fell victim to the flames, so that production had to be relocated to Mühlheim . The fire brigade was able to prevent the fire from spreading to the neighboring Soter Mill. The property in Kälberau was bought and a leather factory was built under a new name. In 1953 it moved to Alzenau. In the 1970s, the old factory buildings were demolished.

The Sotermühle continued to exist during the time of the leather factory and was used to generate electricity in addition to grinding . After its shutdown, the water wheels were dismantled for the bald regulation . Weir and Mühlbach were eliminated and the island was reconnected to the mainland. The royal wheel was set up nearby. Today there is a country hotel with an adventure golf course on the property of the former Soter Mill.
