The Peter Kölln GmbH & Co. KGaA manufactures since 1820 foods known it is mainly through oatmeal . After six generations of the Kölln family, the company is currently run by Christian von Boetticher , only to be handed over to the 7th generation of the family at a later date. The company is based in Elmshorn in southwestern Schleswig-Holstein in the greater Hamburg area .

history

The company started at the end of the 18th century. In 1795, Hans Hinrich Kölln (1770–1812) bought a small, horse- powered groats mill . For example, he provided the seafarers leaving Elmshorn for Greenland with biscuits . In the course of the wars after the French Revolution and the continental blockade imposed by Napoleon I in 1806 , the company also fell into a crisis. After the death of Hans Hinrich Kölln, the business was continued by his wife.

Her son Peter Kölln (1796–1858) took over the mill and in 1820 founded today's industrial company. The founder's son replaced the old Göpelwerk with a steam engine . In addition to the grain wholesaling, which was the economic focus of the company until the beginning of the First World War , the Köllnflocken-Werke developed into one of the most important oat processors in Europe in the following years. In the 1870s a new mill was built and in the following decades the production capacities were expanded and technically improved. Peter Kölln created a well-known German brand with the “Blossom Tender Kölln Flakes” registered as a trademark in 1937 in the dark blue and light blue packaging. In addition, mueslis and traditional breakfast cereals , but also oat specialties such as melted flakes , oat bran flakes and instant flakes were developed.

In 2004 the company acquired pomp children semolina and Edelweiss milk sugar as well as the brands "Livio", " Biskin ", " Palmin " and "Becht's edible oil" from the company Unilever belonging German Union food Werke GmbH . In mid-2009 was the Livio brand license for ketchup , mayonnaise and dressings to the delicatessen business Homann , the holding company for IFR Capital of Heiner Kamps heard sold.

shipping

For many years, oats were delivered via the Krückau and the Elmshorn harbor, which has now become completely sluggish. Four motor ships, the Kornblume , Korngarbe , Corn Ear and the Klostersande sailed in Peter Kölln's house colors. The last departure of the Klostersande was on November 21, 2000. The Klostersande has been a museum ship in Elmshorn since 2016.

For several decades, sticker pictures were added to the packs for oatmeal . The model for this advertising material was the Liebig pictures . The company maintained its own exchange center for this purpose. Corresponding scrapbooks for sticking in the pictures were issued for this purpose.
