The Wahnheide district is located in the south-east of Cologne , in the Porz district .
location
The district of Wahnheide borders in the north and east on Grengel , in the south on Lind and in the west with the federal highway 59 on Wahn and Elsdorf .
history
The name Wahner Heide was first mentioned in 1757. On December 24th, 1757, Matthias Ehmann published a map with the name Karte der Wahner Heide from December 24th, 1757 with hunting, real estate and other rights of the house of Wahn . The name Wahnheide, on the other hand, is an abbreviation of the Wahner Heide , a nature reserve and former military training area . The district owes its development to the latter, in the area of which there were originally only a few huts and houses on the Biesel . The military training area, which was opened in 1817 and later extended to the area of the present-day districts of Eil , Grengel and Lind , made it necessary to accommodate and take care of the training soldiers, which also benefited private individuals who settled next to it.
In 1939 an air base was established on the site of the military training area . This formed the basis of today's Konrad Adenauer Airport and the Wahn air force barracks .
