Libur is the southernmost part of the city of Cologne . It belongs to the district of Porz . Libur is the district with the smallest number of inhabitants and the lowest population density within the city of Cologne.

location

Libur borders in the northeast on Wahn and Lind , in the southeast on Troisdorf - Spich , in the south on Niederkassel - Uckendorf , in the west on Niederkassel- Ranzel and in the northwest on Zündorf .

history

In 1183 the village Libur was first mentioned in a document; Another mention is in the Miracle Book of Annos II from 1185: "villula Lebure". In 1411 the spelling "Lebur" was found.

Two different meanings are given for the place name: One can mean shelter or protection . However, it is also possible to derive it from the Old High German terms  = "burial mound" and bûr  = "house", "apartment". Then the place name would be understood as "place of residence on the grave mound".

Since the Middle Ages the place has belonged to the Porz office in the Duchy of Berg . With the establishment of the Grand Duchy of Berg (1806) and the restructuring of the administration based on the French model (1808), Libur came to the Rhine department . Since 1815 the place belonged to the Prussian mayor's office Wahn in the district of Mülheim and from 1822 to the Rhine province . This mayor's office was renamed to Amt Wahn in 1927 and merged with Amt Heumar to Amt Porz in 1929 . As a result of the dissolution of the Mülheim district, the Porz office became part of the Rheinisch-Bergisches Kreis in 1932 . The incorporation to Cologne took place in 1975.

After the last fighting in April 1945, German weapons and ammunition were sunk in the Schullekul fire-fighting pond . Due to the proximity to the school, children playing with ammunition, the unpleasant smell and the mosquito plague, there was great interest in remedial action in the village. The eviction was only decided four years after the first inquiries on March 18, 1957. The clearance work took 66 days and was completed on June 15, 1957. Large amounts of war material were recovered and destroyed.

Since 2005, Libur's population has been rising steadily as a result of the designation of new development areas.

The Catholic parish church of St. Margaretha is located in the center of the village. Today it belongs with the churches of St. Aegidius Wahn, Christus König Wahnheide, St. Bartholomäus Urbach and St. Mariä Himmelfahrt Grengel to the parish association of Christ the King.

In 1482, the Count of Plettenberg initially founded a vicarie . In 1582 a field chapel was built in Libur in honor of Margaret of Antioch . In 1849 the vicarie was raised to an independent parish. After the field chapel had become too small for church services, the foundation stone of today's parish church of St. Margaretha was laid on April 25, 1909; the consecration took place on July 13, 1910. In early 1911 the old field chapel was demolished. On November 30, 1911, the consecration took place by Auxiliary Bishop Joseph Müller .
