Cologne authors' workshop

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Cologne Authors' Workshop is a regular open group of authors.

Procedure

The author's workshop is formally organized as a seminar at the University of Cologne , but you don't have to be registered to participate.

At weekly meetings, two authors present their own texts. Make sure you have enough copies available for everyone to hear and read. All literary texts are permitted: short prose, poetry, excerpts from novels, drama, essay and the like.

There is only one rule for the following discussion: The author is not allowed to comment during this time, but only to give a short word at the end. This is so that the text itself is discussed and not what the author says about it. The discussion takes place on an equal footing, the leader is only the organizer and moderator, not a lecturer, he does not assign any tasks, his contributions do not weigh more than those of the others.

Afterwards, those involved usually go to suitable Cologne pubs for a look back.

At the end of each semester, the authors' workshop gives public readings with mostly ten to twelve authors. Places were e.g. B. the Bürgerhaus Stollwerck, the Artheater, the Café Duddel or the Sülz district library.

history

The Cologne authors' workshop was founded in 1980 in the context of the literary magazine "Heft". The university's studio stage and film workshop initially formed the organizational framework. In 1984, its participants organized the reading series "Lessons", in which Erich Fried appeared among others.

Since the winter semester 1990/91, the authors' workshop has been a seminar of the Institute for German Language and Literature at the University of Cologne.
