history

Today's place Köterberg is first mentioned in 1268 under the name Wezzelingveld . The later name Köterberg appears in 1430 in a document on the occasion of a boundary drawing as Kötterberg , i.e. Küteberg = Grenzberg. The special topographical shape of the Köterberg made the manorial neighbors believe that there were ores to be found in it. Therefore, assumptions were made that were carried out by miners, but were unsuccessful due to the geological condition (Keuper). In 1536 the County of Lippe, the Duchy of Paderborn and the Duchy of Braunschweig-Lüneburg signed a border treaty in which the borders that are still valid today were drawn. The reason for this agreement was the continuing hope for ore deposits. In 1929, today's Köterberghaus was built as a hotel and restaurant. It has been owned by the Brand family since 1932. The Köterberg offers the visitor a grandiose view and is a popular destination. The village of the same name, Köterberg, was repopulated by the Falkenhagen monastery in 1531 after a long desertification. For centuries it was dominated by agriculture. Today there is still a full-time farmer. The place is losing more and more inhabitants.

The previously independent municipality was incorporated into the municipal reform on January 1, 1970.

Infrastructure

The place is predominantly agricultural. Evangelical Reformed and Catholic parishioners visit the churches in Falkenhagen. At the top of the mountain, which can be reached by car, is the Köterberghotel, a restaurant owned by the Brand family.

tourism

In good weather you can see from the Köterberg to the Harz, to the Teutoburg Forest, to the Weser Mountains and to Kassel. The Köterberg is a popular destination that attracts motorcyclists in summer and winter sports enthusiasts in winter.
