Külso is part of the community and town of Zahna-Elster in the district of Wittenberg in Saxony-Anhalt .
Surname
The name comes from koko = rounding, circle, round, which is probably due to the shape of the village. Around 1812 the name Külßon was used in a copper engraved map .
geography
Külso is located about nine kilometers east of Lutherstadt Wittenberg in the Fläming Nature Park . The right tributary of the Elbe, the Zahna, flows through the Külsos area coming from the north.
history
Külso was first mentioned in a document in 1378 and is of Slavic origin. From 1942 Külso was incorporated into the Dietrichsdorf community . In 1962, the half-timbered church built after the Wars of Liberation was demolished due to its dilapidation. On January 1, 2011, Külso and Dietrichsdorf became districts of Zahna-Elster as part of a regional reform.
The former Külsoer mill on the Zahna is now used as a restaurant and guesthouse.
