geography
Zörnigall consists of two different settlements, today called Zörnigall-Dorf and Zörnigall-Siedlung . In the south it stretches almost to the building boundary of Mühlanger .
history
The old village is a swamp housing complex , whose Sorbian name is derived from Old Sorbian * černy gał (roughly "black clearing"). Was mentioned in a document Czernegal the first time in 1380. In the 19th century the spelling was Zernigal used.
In 1930 the former Zörnigall estate was split up. The small farmers in the village bought parts of the large estates so that their economies became viable. In addition, settlement areas were vacated near the Wittenberg – Berlin railway line on the “Kohlhaasenstücke”. In a short time, a large housing estate with a school building was built here from 1934 and later in the neighboring Abtsdorf .
The Kohlhaasbrunnen and Michael-Kohlhaas-Straße remind of Michael Kohlhaas , who is said to have stayed in this area.
On January 1, 2011, Zörnigall was incorporated into the new town of Zahna-Elster.
politics
The honorary mayor Rainer Pichert was elected for the first time on June 26, 1994.
