Mühlanger is a village in the town of Zahna-Elster in the district of Wittenberg in Saxony-Anhalt .

geography

Mühlanger is located on the Elbe , about four kilometers east of Lutherstadt Wittenberg . The districts of Mühlanger and Gallin belong to the village .

history

The first documentary mention of Hohndorf comes from the year 1304. The community Mühlanger was founded in 1939 through the merger of Hohndorf and Prühlitz . In 1974 Gallin was incorporated into Mühlanger.

On January 1, 2011, Mühlanger became part of the newly formed town of Zahna-Elster together with the municipalities of the dissolved Elbaue-Fläming administrative community .

Since the date for a citizens' hearing on November 29, 2009 on the incorporation of Mühlanger had not been announced at least two months in advance by a notice in the community's showcases, the state constitutional court of Saxony-Anhalt canceled the incorporation on May 29, 2013 . The administration of the municipality of Mühlanger has since been carried out on the basis of a purpose agreement by the city of Zahna-Elster until the village was finally incorporated into Zahna-Elster on January 1, 2014.

politics

coat of arms

The coat of arms was approved by the district on November 4, 2008.

Blazon : "In blue on a golden shield base covered with blue wavy bars, a silver windmill, accompanied by two silver swallows flying towards the center."

In 2008, the Magdeburg municipal heraldist Jörg Mantzsch was commissioned to develop a legally valid coat of arms for Mühlanger and bring it into the approval process so that the municipality can use this coat of arms as a sign of its identity even after the upcoming administrative reform (unitary municipality). Specifications were to create a "talking coat of arms" that also refers to the nearby Elbe. At the same time it was necessary to develop a coat of arms that is unique and unmistakable. For this reason, since there are mills very often in heraldry, two swallows were added to the coat of arms.

Swallows are a species of bird that can often be found on a meadow (= grassy land or village square in common ownership) and hunt insects. Mythologically and in popular belief, the swallow is a good luck charm. The Elbe expresses itself through the wave beam that rests on the base of the shield.

The main colors were silver (white) for the mill and blue for the wave bar. The base of the shield is tinged with gold (yellow) and is reminiscent of agriculture, which was once the most important economic basis with grain fields around the town.

flag

The flag has blue, white and blue stripes and is centered with the coat of arms.

Culture and sights

The park and home festival takes place in mid-June, and the mayor's annual volleyball tournament on October 3rd. The Easter and autumn bonfires traditionally take place at Easter and in autumn.
