Gadegast is a district of the town of Zahna-Elster in the district of Wittenberg in Saxony-Anhalt .

Gadegast is about 17 kilometers east of Lutherstadt Wittenberg .
history
The community was first mentioned in a document in 1385. The spelling of the place name was 1508 Gathegast and 1550 Gategast . The community was in the Saxon office of Seyda until 1815 and then became Prussian.
In 1550 32 possessed men lived here, including 18 gardeners who were directly subordinate to the Seyda office. At that time the village had its own thing chair and judge.
The place had its own parish church.
On January 1, 2011, Gadegast became part of the newly formed town of Zahna-Elster together with the municipalities of the dissolved Elbaue-Fläming administrative community .

It was the decision of the municipality to include a coat of arms in the approval process, which simply relates to agriculture. The municipal heraldist Jörg Mantzsch was responsible for the design and incorporation into the approval process .
