Kęstutis Vaiginis

Kęstutis Vaiginis (born September 6, 1978 ) is a Lithuanian jazz musician ( soprano , alto and tenor saxophone , flute , composition ) of the Modern Creative . He is considered one of the most talented saxophonists of the young generation in his country.

Live and act

Vaiginis attended the Conservatory of Vilnius from 1993 to 1998 and completed a classical education before studying up to 2004 at the Lithuanian Academy of Music and Theater up to a master’s degree (with Petras Vyšniauskas, among others ). From 2004 he continued his education at the Prins Claus Conservatorium , the Conservatorium van Amsterdam (2006) and the Manhattan School of Music .

Kęstutis quickly established himself in the Lithuanian jazz scene and performed repeatedly at important national festivals as well as at French, Dutch and Italian festivals. He led his own bands and also performed with international musicians such as Barbara Dennerlein , Daniel Messina , Hernan Romero, David Berkman , Randal Corsen , Bilal Karaman and Herbie Kopf . He toured in Western and Central Europe as well as in the Middle East and Southeast Asia and North America. At the gala concert on the occasion of the EU Council Presidency of Lithuania on July 12, 2013 in the Lithuanian National Philharmonic Orchestra, he performed his own compositions with the Bujazzo under the direction of Niels Klein .

Vaiginis is characterized by "its clear and controlled sound, its poetry and passion".

Awards and honors

Vaiginis has won various national and international competitions. In 2010 he was awarded the Birštonas jazz Gran Prix for his significant contribution to Lithuanian jazz. In 2013, Federal President Joachim Gauck honored him with the European Musical Music Prize .
