Tevfik Kış

Tevfik Kış (born August 10, 1934 in Çorum , † September 4, 2019 in Ankara ) was a Turkish wrestler .

His wrestling talent was only discovered during military service. After his military service, he was introduced to the district sports director, who then referred him to the then national coach. At the International Balkan Championship in Istanbul in 1959 , he won second place in the Greco-Roman style (87 kg). The following year, in 1960 at the Olympic Games in Rome , he won the gold medal in the Greco-Roman style (87 kg). Tevfik Kış was twice world and once European champion in the next few years and stopped wrestling in 1968. He became national coach and later chairman of the Turkish Wrestling Association. At the beginning of the 1980s, he and friends from the sports sector founded a foundation for wrestling, and headed its board.

Tevfik Kış, father of two children, lived as a businessman and restaurant owner in Ankara. In September 2011, he was inducted into the FILA International Wrestling Hall of Fame for his services to wrestling .
