Valeri Grigorjewitsch Resanzew ( Russian Валерий Григорьевич Резанцев , scientific transliteration Valerij Grigor'evič Rezancev ; born November 25, 1942 in Stalinogorsk , Tula Oblast ) is a former Soviet wrestler .

Career

Valery Resanzew came to wrestle as a teenager in Moscow . After he had entered the police service and as a junior in the Soviet top class in the wrestling of the Greco-Roman. Having advanced style, he was delegated to the Dynamo Moscow sports club , where Vadim Psarev became his coach. The 1.79 m tall athlete always competed in the light heavyweight division (at that time up to 90 kg body weight) and always in the Greco-Roman style. In 1972 and 1976 he was Olympic champion . In all ten international championships in which he participated, he won without a single defeat. It must have been frustrating for his opponents never to get past Valery Resanzew. The Bulgarian Stojan Nikolow and the Pole Czesław Kwieciński , who were his toughest opponents, had to acknowledge the superiority of Resanzev. His ring style was unspectacular but extremely efficient. He also wrestled several times at the Grand Prix of the Federal Republic of Germany in Aschaffenburg.

After the end of his career as an active wrestler, the police officer was seen for years as one of the best referees on the wrestling mats in the world. In 2004 he was inducted into the FILA International Wrestling Hall of Fame for his services to wrestling .
