KGB is a punk rock band from Tübingen that was founded in 1980 . Singer Hannes Koerber is the only founding member in the current line-up.
history
KGB was founded in 1980 and since then has been formed in eighteen lineups around the lead singer Hannes Koerber. In the beginning the abbreviation stood for “No reason to calm down”, but the lyrics and album titles were constantly varied (“Corrupt, greedy, bribable”, “Kraut, Gringo, Blitzkrieg”). The band's most active period was the second half of the 1980s.
The first international tour through Italy took place in 1985, and in 1986 KGB toured the USA with bands such as Circle Jerks , Zero Boys , Rhythm Pigs , Goo Goo Dolls and Bad Brains . In Germany followed appearances with DOA , Abwärts , Toxoplasma , Die Toten Hosen and The Sweet . In 1990 two videos for the album Once Around the Sun were produced; TV appearances and tours through Spain, Italy, Scandinavia, Great Britain and Holland follow.
The band also made appearances with Toy Dolls , Depraved , Rubbermaids , Dimple Minds , Greg Sage , TSOL , Bad Religion , Bollock Brothers , EA 80 and Rausch , as well as another US tour.
In 1995 a European tour followed with the American punk rock band Toxic Reasons . In 1997 the Karin Fischer publishing house published lyrics by KGB in the book RehZepter gegen die Impotenz . In 1999 the KGB singers, Daily Terror from Braunschweig and the Herbärds from Stuttgart, published a cover album of early German New Wave titles under the name “Die Drei Röhren” . In 2005 the album Fiesta Fiasko was released for the 25th anniversary of the band, and an Allstars concert with old band members and musicians of friendly bands took place for its release.
style
Musically, KGB is based on classic old-school punk, with the mostly socially critical texts always playing a central role. In 1992 the band experimented briefly with crossover and funk elements. The result can be heard on Germany some bottle deposit , the release from this year, as well as on the contribution to Welcome to the night dream melody .
