List of TV channels

K1010 was an interactive TV broadcaster from Berlin and from April 2004 to October 2006 it was received digitally via satellite and in some cable networks .

The program consisted of numerous games and quiz programs. The viewers had the opportunity to take part in the games by calling a chargeable telephone number from Germany and Austria.

Game concept

The game concept of K1010 differed significantly from the rest of the call-in landscape on German-speaking television. A teammate usually played several rounds with tasks that he did not know before the game started. The level of difficulty and the prize awarded increased from round to round. After each round, the candidate could drop out, but had to make a decision before he was given the next task. If the answer was wrong, the profit that had already been made was lost.

Although a new candidate was put on the show immediately after each round, many calls were usually required to be selected as a teammate. In order for at least the dial-up costs to be earned, you had to play up to the higher rounds, which were fair but quite demanding. For the programs Newsquiz and Up2Date, for example, which had questions about current events, extensive preparation was necessary in order to win a three-digit amount.

The high level of the tasks and the short range of the transmitter via digital channels and only a few analog cable networks meant that almost exclusively regular players took part in the games. Well over 80% of the game rounds were played by a small team of less than 50 people. First-time callers were a rarity.

This fact created another psychological barrier for potential first-time callers, as a “club atmosphere” was created. Although the regular players were restricted by rules such as only one profit per broadcast, not enough players could be won to achieve a cost-covering operation.

history

K1010 emerged from the company COMAD Computer Advertisement founded by Thorsten Rauser in Reutlingen in 1989 , which was later renamed Rauser Advertainment. In April 2000 the game portal K1010 was started and in December 2000 Rauser Advertainment was renamed K1010. K1010 was originally an ad-supported, free game portal for users on the Internet. The financing concept failed, however, and K1010 was saved from bankruptcy in June 2001 when it was taken over by Berlin-based UV interactive Services GmbH .

In April 2002 the call-in quiz show "The Smiley Show" was broadcast at night on the Berlin Spree Canal, managed by UV interactive . Later on, the game shows Play yourself luck and ears open! produced on a weekly basis for the Berlin TV station FAB . The Smiley Show was briefly broadcast in Turkish on the German-Turkish broadcaster TD1 .

In July 2003, the then Scholz & Friends board member Wolfgang Boyé acquired 80% of the shares in UV interactive, which now belonged to the Scholz & Friends group, as part of a management buyout through his holding company KiWoSa GmbH, with the aim of a nationwide 24-hour service - Establish game channels. As of April 2004, broadcasts across Germany were via ASTRA and numerous cable networks . However, there was no question of nationwide coverage in cable networks. In addition, the news quiz was produced twice a week for n-tv from April 2004 to July 2006 .

In December 2004, another partner, RTL interactive, took part . In the course of 2005, regional broadcasts via FAB and the Spree Canal were given up. In mid-2005, bittenbox GmbH was founded as a wholly-owned subsidiary, which from autumn 2005 operated a teleshopping channel via its own ASTRA channel . In the spring of 2006 the program Spieltrieb was produced for VIVA .

In mid-2006, problems with the concept of the call-in shows became apparent. Productions for other broadcasters like VIVA or n-tv had to be stopped. Three times a week, a teleshopping program on simple women's jewelry produced by the subsidiary offering box , now K1010 Media GmbH, was broadcast on its own channel . In September 2006, most of the winnings were no longer paid out to fellow players.

Since these consisted almost exclusively of regular viewers, sales immediately collapsed. At the end of October 2006, the K1010 actually ceased broadcasting. K1010 Entertainment GmbH was renamed Gems TV Germany and until May 2008 only broadcast teleshopping. This program was taken over by Juwelo TV in June 2008 . Juwelo TV Deutschland GmbH is the renamed KiWoSa GmbH, which was the main shareholder of K1010 and Gems TV Germany.

Bidbox GmbH was renamed K1010 Media GmbH and continues to operate the original games portal on the Internet (see this article ).
