KIC 9832227 is a physical binary star system in the constellation Swan , which is located approximately 1940 (± 30) light years from Earth. It is a closely eclipsed variable whose two components rotate around each other in just under 11 hours. The period of rotation decreases continuously.
future
The merger of the two stars in a so-called merger burst was initially predicted for 2022. The event should be visible from Earth for months as a Luminous Red Nova (LRN). However, new calculations including older measurements from 2003 refuted the prediction. In addition, an error in the documentation of a measuring point from 1999 was discovered. When the event will occur is open again.
