The Koch, Neff & Oetinger Verlagsauslieferung GmbH ( KNO VA ) is a German Verlagsauslieferung based in Leipzig . KNO VA is a sister company of the KNV bar range ( Koch, Neff & Volckmar GmbH ). The company employs around 120 people and, along with the United Publishing House Delivery (VVA), which belongs to the Bertelsmann Group, is one of the two largest publishing house deliveries in Germany. Clients include well-known publishers such as Deutscher Taschenbuch Verlag (dtv), Klett-Cotta , Gräfe and Unzer , Suhrkamp and Thieme .

history

Koch, Neff & Oetinger can trace its history back to 1829. It is from the company F. Volckmar founded by Friedrich Volckmar , as well as through acquisitions and mergers in the years 1903 to 1907 from the former Stuttgart bookshops and commissioning companies Albert Koch & Co. (founded 1860), A. Oetinger (founded 1835) and Paul Neff (founded 1829) emerged. The names of the three last-mentioned companies were used to give the company its name for reasons of greater awareness in southern Germany. In 1917, the companies were Koch & Oetinger and Neff & Koehler in Stuttgart Koch, Neff & Oetinger GmbH & Co united.

In 2004 Koch, Neff & Oetinger (KNO ) and Koehler & Volckmar (KV ) merged to form Koch, Neff & Volckmar (KNV ), although Koch, Neff & Oetinger & Co. Verlagsausgabe GmbH remained unaffected. In 2009, the KNO VA bought the publishing house LKG ( Leipziger Kommissions- und Großbuchhandelsgesellschaft mbH ) and in principle reintegrated a part that belonged to the company until the end of the Second World War and was then expropriated. On May 20, 2011, the company management announced that the logistic areas of Koch, Neff & Volckmar GmbH at the locations in Stuttgart and Cologne, as well as the logistics of the sister company Koch, Neff & Oetinger GmbH in Stuttgart dissolved by 2015 and centralized in Erfurt - Mittelhausen . The previous KNO-VA buildings were completely demolished by September 2016. In the summer of 2016, the company's non-logistical areas moved into a new building complex immediately adjacent to the previous area, which an investor built for the company.

Bankruptcy proceedings

On February 14, 2019, the management of KNO-VA filed for insolvency at the Stuttgart District Court. On August 1, 2019, KNO-VA was taken over by the Zeitfracht group of companies. The previous, sixth generation managing partner Oliver Voerster (as a direct descendant of the founding family Volckmar) and Bertram Feuerbacher left the company in this context.

Areas of activity

KNO VA stores the book stocks as a publisher delivery for the affiliated publishers and delivers the orders to the publishing customers and transports, in addition to books, non-books and other articles to the bookstores . It has more than 100,000 pallet spaces in the main building and in external warehouses, which are connected to one another by internal conveyor lines and truck shuttle traffic.

Since the 1970s, numerous literary and non-fiction publishers have limited themselves to their core publishing areas, such as editing , human resources , marketing and finance , and have outsourced the areas of logistics, production and large parts of general administration to KNO Publishing House. The Deutsche Taschenbuch Verlag ( Munich ) has even been supplied by KNO VA since it was founded in 1960. In addition to the delivery, KNO VA takes on the classic order acceptance and entry, the information of the retail book trade, dispatch of the publishing programs, telephone marketing ( inbound and outbound ), database maintenance, the dispatch of the invoices and the incoming payments. The accounts receivable are carried out on behalf of and on behalf of the publishers or taken over as factoring including del credere . Furthermore, the dunning process is carried out for the publishers.

Special software products are offered to publishers, e.g. B. for an overview of titles, customers and statistics, for information and order entry in the field , for press and review management , for address management and a data warehouse system for customer and title-related evaluations.

Services for e-books include book digitization, physical book scanning, digital rights management (DRM) and support. The KNO VA also stores the e-books on servers and uses them to deliver the e-books to trading platforms and take over the invoicing and accounts receivable management.

Award

In 2005 and 2007, the KNO VA won the survey by the industry magazine BuchMarkt, which asked booksellers and publishers about the performance evaluation of the publisher's deliveries. In 2007, KNO shared first place with competitors VVA and Prolit.
