Wolfram Siemann

Wolfram Siemann (born June 22, 1946 in Witten ad Ruhr ) is a German historian .

Life

From 1965, Siemann studied history , German , philosophy and political science at the universities of Münster , Vienna and Tübingen . In 1971 he graduated with the state exam , and three years later with a thesis on the Frankfurt Parliament of 1848-49 at Ernst Walter Zeeden doctorate . From 1975 he worked as a research assistant working at the University of Tübingen, where he finally in 1983 also be habilitated .

From 1985 to 1987, Siemann was the holder of a Heisenberg grant ; a year later he was appointed adjunct professor in Tübingen. From 1989 to 1993 he held a Fiebiger professorship at the Ludwig Maximilians University in Munich (LMU) and then accepted a chair for modern history at the University of Trier . In 1996, Siemann moved to the Ludwig-Maximilians-Universität München as the successor to Gerhard A. Ritter , where he remained until his retirement in 2011. In 1997 and 1998, Siemann was Vice Dean , and in 1999 and 2000 Dean of the Munich Faculty of History and Art. In 2002 and 2004 he was in the Senate voted LMU. In 2008/09 he received a research-free year as part of the Opera Magna program of the Fritz Thyssen Foundation and the Volkswagen Foundation to work on his Metternich biography. Siemann is co-editor of the series “Historical Studies” (since 1999) and “Munich Studies on Modern and Recent History” (since 2004).

Siemann's main research interests include the revolutionary, constitutional and media history of the “long” 19th century . His studies on the history of the European revolutions of 1848/49 are particularly well regarded . Furthermore, with Rolf Peter Sieferle and Joachim Radkau, he is also one of the pioneers of environmental history in German historical studies.
