The KOE VT 3 was an engine - railcars of the circle Oldenburger railway (KOE). It was manufactured by the Wismar wagon factory and used as a tow car. In 1941, following the nationalization of the Kreisbahn, it was taken over by the Deutsche Reichsbahn and designated as 137 239 . It was one of the few three-axle railcars in Germany .

History and technical data

The railcar was put into service as the second railcar at the Oldenburger Eisenbahn district . Before that, the company had owned a benzene-mechanical powered rail car called Therese since 1925 .

In 1934 the VT 3 was procured as a luggage railcar. There is no unequivocal clarity about the designation VT 3 . Interpretations indicate the designation as a three-axle railcar. The company's first railcar was two-axle and was called the VT 2 . After the VT 3 , the third vehicle was a four-axle Mosel railcar , which was given the designation VT 4 . According to the same source, the railcar VT 3 is said to have been numbered PT1 at the company . It was one of the few three-axle railcars in Germany. The railcar was used particularly in ferry traffic on Fehmarnsund . According to the sources, the railcar is said to have been used in towing traffic on the Neustadt – Heiligenhafen route .

In 1941 the KOE was nationalized. The luggage railcar was then given the designation 137 239 . The photos show the railcar with a two-tone Reichsbahn lettering, but no lettering can be seen. Examination inscriptions show the inscription Hgl. On the vehicle, which is interpreted as Hagenow Land as the place of operation after the nationalization. Operations during the war are not known. The railcar was still available at the Reichsbahndirektion in Munich in 1949 and parked in the railroad service vehicle works (Bww) Pasing . Other sources refer to it as a loss of war.

Vehicle body

The railcar had a weight of 31,600 kg and ran on a two-axle bogie and a steering axle . The bogie was sprung with a lengthwise blade spring. The front sides of the railcar were polygonal, they had a centrally positioned transition door and a transition bridge for the personnel to pass through. The luggage railcar had only two small passenger compartments and a luggage compartment with a large loading sliding door and barred windows.

The machinery, which is not known in detail, was housed in the bogie and under the car body floor. The railcar's cooling system was also located below the floor.
