The sea rescue boat (SRB) Kaatje was a 7-meter class boat of the German Society for the Rescue of Shipwrecked People (DGzRS).

In contrast to the new designs of this class that were put into service in 1971 and 1972, the Kaatje is the former daughter boat Mellum of the rescue cruiser Eiswette . This boat was built in 1980 by the Schweers shipyard in Bardenfleth under construction number 6441.

The internal DGzRS designation was KRT 12.

Naming

Kaatje is a Frisian woman's name; the naming of the boat with this name expresses the attachment of the DGzRS to the German coast.

Technical Equipment

The lifeboat was equipped with radio systems, echo sounder , radar , GPS , external bilge pump and a rescue port.

Stationings

2002 in Westerland / Sylt

After the end of its use as a daughter boat, the lifeboat was moved to Fedderwardersiel in January 1990 . The mission there ended in October 1993. After a break, the transfer took place on March 1, 1994 to Maasholm . The operational time there ended on April 21st, 2000. The DGzRS decided the final decommissioning of the boat on July 11th, 2000. The Kaatje has been exhibited on the Kurpromenade on Westerland / Sylt since 2002.
