Cabinet Hoxha II

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Hoxha II cabinet was a transitional government of the People's Socialist Republic of Albania , which was formed on January 11, 1946 by Prime Minister Enver Hoxha of the Party of Labor of Albania PPSh (Partia e Punës e Shqipërisë) . It replaced the Hoxha I cabinet and remained in office until March 22, 1946, after which it was replaced by the Hoxha III cabinet .

On December 2, 1945, the Albanians elected a people's constituent assembly . On January 11, 1946, Albania declared a People's Republic . The government resigned on the same day, but remained in office as Cabinet Hoxha II until a new government was formed. Since the Hoxha II cabinet was no different from the Hoxha I cabinet, it is not always viewed as a separate cabinet in the literature. These authors therefore also refer to the Hoxha III cabinet as the Hoxha II cabinet.

In February 1946 tensions in the government became clear. Sejfulla Malëshova , chairman of the Writers' Union and minister of propaganda, was expelled from the party's central committee - for many communists he was too open to other political forces and the great Western powers. Malëshova was still to be accepted into the next government, but later expelled and sentenced to a long prison term in 1947. Hoxha and Koçi Xoxe had got rid of such an adversary.

On March 14, 1946, the People's Assembly passed a new constitution for the People's Socialist Republic of Albania. As a result, a new government was formed on March 23rd. On March 24th, Enver Hoxha presented the program of the “first government of the People's Republic of Albania” to the People's Assembly.
