description

Vegetative characteristics

Kadua munroi grows as a compact shrub or occasionally as a shrub-like tree that can reach heights of 1.5 to 2.5 meters.

The constantly against arranged on the branches leaves are divided into a petiole and leaf blade. The petiole is 0.1 to 0.6 inches long. The simple, leathery leaf blade is elongated-elliptical to elliptical, occasionally elliptical-ovoid to elliptical-inverted-ovoid with a length of 3 to 10.5 centimeters and a width of 2 to 5 centimeters. The top of the leaf blade is glabrous, while the underside is sparsely to moderately hairy, with the hairiness occasionally occurring only along the leaf veins . The base of the spade is rounded or weakly heart-shaped, the tip of the spreader is blunt or rounded and ends with a sharp point, the edge of the spread is entire. Several pairs of lateral nerves branch off from each side of the central leaf vein and the higher-order leaf veins form a conspicuous or inconspicuous pattern. The stipules resemble the deciduous leaves, are fused with the base of the petiole and thereby form a leaf sheath . The leaf sheath is 0.3 to 0.5 inches long.

Generative characteristics

The terminal, tufted panicle-like inflorescences are 1.3 to 5 centimeters long and stand on a 1 to 1.3 centimeter long, usually bristly hairy inflorescence stalk. The inflorescences contain several single stalked flowers. The mostly bare flower stalks can be between 0.08 and 0.3 inches long.

The four-fold flowers are radial symmetry . The sepals are fused together to form a calyx tube. The hairless calyx lobes are triangular in shape with a length of 1 to 1.4 millimeters. The fleshy, green and hairless petals are fused together like a salver. The occasional purple corolla tube reaches a length of 0.43 to 1.1 centimeters and has a more or less square cross-section. The four crown lobes reach lengths of 0.3 to 0.6 centimeters and have a fleshy appendage.

The stone fruit- like capsule fruits reach a diameter of 0.4 to 0.7 centimeters. When ripe, the fruits are dark blue to purple-black in color. Each of the fruits contains several seeds.

Occurrence

The natural range of Kadua munroi is on some islands belonging to Hawaii . Kadua munroi is an endemic found on the islands of Lānaʻi and Oʻahu .

Taxonomy

It was first described as Gouldia st.-johnii var. Munroi in 1937 by Francis Raymond Fosberg in Bulletin of the Bernice P. Bishop Museum. Honolulu . Here the view of the Royal Botanic Gardens in Kew is followed, according to which the variety as Kadua munroi is recognized as an independent species of the genus Kadua , although there is no valid and published description or revision . Synonyms for Kadua munroi Fosberg ined. are Gouldia munroi (Fosberg) O.Deg. & I.Deg. , Hedyotis fosbergii W.L.Wagner & DRHerbst and Kadua fosbergii (WLWagner & DRHerbst) WLWagner & Lorence .
