Kai Owen (* 4. September 1975 in Llanrwst , Conwy , North Wales as Matthew Mark Stevens ) is a Welsh film and theater actor . He became known locally for various Welsh film and theater roles. He gained worldwide fame through the role of Rhys Williams in the television series Torchwood .

Life

Kai Owen comes from Llanrwst in the Conwy Valley in North Wales, where his family lives. His father Mark is a GMB union official and his mother Yvonne is a cleaning specialist in a British Legion Club . He attended Watling Street Primary School in Llanrwst and the Ysgol Dyffryn Conwy School. He then attended the Mountview Theater School in London for three years , from which he graduated in 1998. Owen lived in East Finchley , London with his wife, actress Sarah Annis . In 2010 they moved to Warwickshire with their son . In 2011, Owen lived in West Hollywood , California for the filming of Torchwood's fourth season, Miracle Day .

He ran the 2009 London Marathon for the CLIC Sargent Children's Cancer Foundation and the 2010 Virgin London Marathon . He is a supporter of the Llandudno Youth Musical Theater . and several charities that work for children with cancer and people who are HIV positive.

Career

Kai Owen's television career began on Welsh television station S4C and became known as Kev in Tipyn O Stad . In more than 52 guest appearances on various series on Welsh television, he was still known as Bob Lewis in Treflan . In 2001 he made his first appearance on British television on BBC One as Buster Edwards in the episode Dog Dago afternoon of the series Fun at the Funeral Parlor . It was followed by other appearances in the television series Casualty and Rocket Man .

In 2006 he got the role of Rhys Williams in the British science fiction series Torchwood , a spin-off from the popular BBC series Doctor Who . As Rhys Williams he discussed radio plays as an audiobook and radio plays for Torchwood .
