Alexa Carole Havins (born November 16, 1980 in Artesia , New Mexico ) is an American actress . She became known nationally for her role in the television series All My Children . She achieved her international breakthrough in the role of Esther Drummond through the BBC television series Torchwood .

Life

Alexa Havins was born in Artesia, New Mexico on November 16, 1980. Her family moved to Chandler , Arizona when she was a child and attended Chandler High School . She then attended the Circle in the Square Theater School in New York City . Alexa was nicknamed Ice Maiden by her mother because she was considered very shy. She wore this nickname independently in the role Babe in the series All My Children .

In 2005 she married her husband Justin Bruening , her film partner on All My Children . After the wedding, they both left the series and moved to Los Angeles , where they had their daughter on August 10, 2010.

Because of her role in the television series Torchwood (2010), she was nominated for TV's 100 Sexiest Women of 2011 .

Career

Before her television career, Alexa Havins was a professional dancer. For the role in the series All my Children , she was nominated for the Daytime Emmy and Soap Opera Digest Award as a younger actress in a drama series . This resulted in several film and television roles as well as guest appearances in movies.
