Kalanchoe spathulata is a species of the genus Kalanchoe in the family of thick-leaf plants (Crassulaceae).
description
Vegetative characteristics
The perennial bald or in the upper part glandular-downy-haired Kalanchoe spathulata reaches heights of growth of 30 to 120 centimeters. The strong, stalk-round to almost square shoots have a diameter of 5 to 15 millimeters and are erect or prostrate-upright.
The fleshy, glabrous, egg-shaped, oblong to spatulate leaves are sessile or slightly stalked. The upper leaves are further apart and become very narrow. The bald leaf blade is 3 to 25 inches long and 1.5 to 10 inches wide. It is narrowed-blunt at the tip and at the base embracing the stem or widened to a very short petiole . The leaf margin is whole to slightly serrated or irregularly notched.
Inflorescences and flowers
The dense, multi-flowered, terminal or axillary inflorescences form 5 to 20 centimeters wide panicles on the even outside . The upright flowers sit on 5 to 20 millimeter long flower stalks . The tubular calyx with a diameter of about one millimeter has triangular, elongated to lanceolate, pointed to pointed tips. The urn-shaped corolla is pure yellow and forms a 10 to 25 millimeter long, cylindrical to almost square tube. The outstretched tips are broadly lanceolate to elliptical-egg-shaped, pointed or pointed and are 8 to 10 millimeters long and 4 to 5 millimeters wide. The stamens are attached in the upper part of the corolla tube and hardly protrude to slightly above the tube. The anthers are egg-shaped to circular. The 3 to 5 millimeter long nectar flakes are linear and often forked. The narrow, elongated carpel is 5 to 92 millimeters long. The stylus has a length of 2.5 to 3 millimeters.
Fruits and seeds
The fruits are upright follicles that contain numerous, elongated, reddish brown, 0.7 millimeter large seeds .
Systematics and distribution
Kalanchoe spathulata is widespread in rocky locations at altitudes of 300 to 1500 meters in the tropical and subtropical regions of Asia . It was first described in 1801 by Augustin-Pyrame de Candolle .
There are numerous synonyms . The most important of these is Cotyledon spathulata (DC.) Poir.
