The Kalitwa ( Russian Калитва́, Бе́лая Калитва́ , 'White Kalitwa' , Больша́я Калитва́''Great Kalitwa ' ) is a left tributary of the Seversky Donets in the southern Russian Oblast of Rostov .
The Kalitwa rises on the southern flank of the Danube ridge ( Донска́я гряда́ ). From there it flows mainly in a southerly direction. It takes on a number of tributaries. The largest are Olchowaja , Bolshaja and Berjosowaja , all from the left. The only city on the river is Belaya Kalitwa . There the Kalitwa joins the Seversky Donets on the left. The Kalitwa has a length of 308 km. Its catchment area covers 10,600 km². The Kalitwa is mainly fed by the snowmelt . The Kalitwa is navigable in the lower reaches.
