Kalka ( Hindi : कालका , Kālakā ) is a small town with 32,255 inhabitants (status: 2011 census) in the Panchkula district in the Indian state of Haryana .
history
Kalka used to have the status of a Municipal Committee . On March 17, 2010 Kalka was then included as a zone in the newly established Municipal Corporation Panchkula .
location
Kalka is located 20 km northeast of Chandigarh and 17.5 km north- northeast of the city center of Panchkula in a basin landscape in the Siwaliks on the upper reaches of the Ghaggar . Kalka is located on the national highway NH 22 between Chandigarh and Shimla at an altitude of 670 m and is the starting point of the Kalka-Shimla Railway , a narrow-gauge railway into the mountains of the Himalayas .
