Church history

The old church center of Kaltbrunn is on the Roßberg. The former parish church of St. Georg (built in 1577) only has the status of a chapel today. The parish of Roßberg with the St. George's Chapel was mentioned as early as 1275. In the suburb Wittichen 1324 the Poor Clares was monastery founded by the Blessed Luitgard which co-supervised the parish Rossberg since 1556th In 1802 the monastery church in Wittichen became a parish church due to the secularization of the monastery. Since then, Kaltbrunn has been part of the parish of Wittichen, together with the Roßberg.

Church history

Hinter- Heubach was mentioned as a farm and forest workers settlement as early as 1275. In 1498, Kaltbrunn was within the Geroldseckian rule of Schenkenzell. Then it became Fürstenbergisch . In the year of secularization in 1802, the Principality of Fürstenberg ceased to exist at the same time, and Kaltbrunn fell to Baden .

Kaltbrunn was an independent municipality in the district of Wolfach and came to the municipality of Schenkenzell in the district of Rottweil on the occasion of the municipality reform on January 1, 1974 .

Economy and tourism

Mining was carried out in Kaltbrunn and especially in the Wittichen district . Many immigrated from Tyrol because of the mining industry . Mining has been mentioned since 1492. Mining in Kaltbrunn-Wittichen had its greatest boom in the 18th and 19th centuries. Mainly cobalt and silver were mined. Blue colors were produced from the cobalt minerals in the paint mill in Wittichen. Due to the competition with synthetically produced blue color pigments ( ultramarine ) and the decline in silver deposits, mining came to a complete standstill in the second half of the 19th century.

Tourism is limited to private rooms and an inn.
