Stations
The Füssen Calvary unites religion, nature and art (the Nazarenes ) in a special way . The Calvary was built in the 19th century. The initiator was the pastor Johann Baptist Graf (1802–1862). Graf's religious life was in the tradition of Johann Michael Sailer and Christoph von Schmid . When Hohenschwangau Castle was renovated and redesigned, many painters found work in the castle and later in the design of the chapels.
- Frauenkirche am Berg (down on the Lech): The church was built in 1682/83 by Johann Schmuzer in place of an older church. A chapel was built into the choir in 1854, which forms the beginning of the Calvary.
- Marienkapelle (1840–1842) halfway up the mountain with an impressive larger than life Maria
- Dungeon Chapel (1840–1842)
- Holy Grave Chapel, neo-Gothic central building (1843)
- Holy Cross Chapel (1859)
- fourteen station chapels, renovated in a neo-Gothic style
- Mount of Olives Grotto (1852)
- Sandstone pillars in memory of pastor Graf (1864)
- three summit crosses (1837–1842)
- Walk through the hilltop
King Ludwig II , builder of Neuschwanstein , often took part in the Good Friday processions up the mountain. Archduke Rainer Joseph of Austria visited the mountain and Joseph Cardinal Höffner often prayed on Calvary during his vacation stays in Füssen.
