Kamer Genç (2012)

Kamer Genç (born February 23, 1940 in Nazımiye , Tunceli province , † January 22, 2016 in Istanbul ) was a Turkish politician who was a member of various parties and was elected to parliament several times. Most recently he was a member of the CHP .

Career

Kamer Genç was born in 1940 in Ramazan Village, Nazımiye County. His family were simple people, his father Ali Genç worked in Istanbul during the summer. From 1960 on, Kamer Genç attended the financial engineering school in Ankara. He also worked alongside his father. During this time, his brother Hıdır died of measles . In 1966, Kamer Genç finished his studies at the Economics and Trade Faculty of Ankara University , which he had attended since 1962. In addition to his studies, he also did internships at the Treasury Department and was appointed a tax officer for Bingöl . In 1966 he passed the entrance exams for the State Council . There he took on various posts.

Between 1974 and 1976 he stayed in Paris . After the military coup in Turkey in 1980 he was a member of a special parliament that was supposed to draft a new constitution. He was in this Parliament from 1981 to 1983. Kamer Genç worked as a financial advisor between 1983 and 1987. When parties were re-admitted after 1983, he wanted to run as an independent candidate, but did not get the approval of the military. He then joined the Sosyal Demokrasi Partisi of Erdal Inönü . In 1985 the Sosyal Demokrasi Partisi was merged with the Sosyal Democrat Halkçı Parti .

In 1987, Kamer Genç was elected to the Turkish parliament for the first time as a member of Tunceli. When the social democrat Halkçı Parti merged with Cumhuriyet Halk Partisi (CHP) in 1995 , Genç was not put on the electoral list. He then moved to Doğru Yol Partisi . Since the parliamentary elections in 2007 he sat as a non-party in parliament. Among other things, he was also deputy chairman of parliament. After Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu was elected as the new chairman of the CHP, Genç joined the CHP on June 1, 2010. Kamer Genç has been a member of parliament four times since 1987, although he was not elected in 2002.

In June 2010, Kamer Genç was diagnosed with a cerebral hemorrhage . He had bumped his head on a branch while jogging two months earlier. Kamer Genç was then operated on.

In mid-January 2016, Genç died of a pancreatic tumor .

Personal

In 1967 he married the teacher Sevim Hanım, with whom he had already attended elementary school. The couple have two children named Seçkin and Seçil.
